A total of $50,000 has been set aside for local projects to be undertaken by the Fiji Australian Business Council (FABC) next year.

FABC president Himen Chandra revealed this at the council’s annual Christmas cocktail event at the Tiri Bar, FNU Nasese Campus on Thursday.

Mr Chandra said part of the 2025 plans is to execute four projects in sectors, including:

  •  Youth and sports: Awareness campaign against drug issues within the youth;
  • Women: FABC will work on areas that need assistance by the Ministry of Women in conjunction with Australian High Commission;
  •  Health: Looking to undertake a revamp of a medical clinic in a highly densely-populated area; and
  • Education: Provide access to internet and e-learning with a school-based anti-litter awareness initiative.

“These projects will be managed by subcommittees within the FABC and with members participation, where each project will be managed and reported by the committee chair to the board with proper project management plan,” Mr Chandra said.

“The $50,000 allocation will be divided equally among the projects and may vary a little based on cases and the committee will decide on the beneficiaries of the project.”

He said FABC had progressed over the past few years under its past leaderships.

“We have 157 registered members and it is safe to say that FABC is one of the largest business councils active in the country.

“Saying that, we as private sector business representatives in Fiji have become resilient and adaptable in any environment.”

Mr Chand said the main goal of the council is to foster good trade relationship between Australia and Fiji to create better trade relationship between the two countries.
